World Robusta coffee prices continued to decline for the 4th session in a series of discount days as soon as the beginning of 2021. As noted by  TG&VN  at 23:00 on January 8 (Vietnam time), Robusta coffee prices traded at the exchange. ICE Futures Europe_London (UK) for January delivery dropped another 10 USD / ton (0.71%) compared to the previous session, currently standing at 1.39.7 USD / ton; Price delivered in March 2021 decreased sharply by 21 USD / ton (1.57%), traded at 1,315 USD / ton.

At the same time, after the transactions increased in the previous day, the price of arabica coffee on ICE Futures US – New York (USA) decreased slightly. Accordingly, spot futures in March decreased slightly by 0.8 Cent (0.66%), traded to the mark of 120.3 Cent / lb; May delivery decreased slightly 0.8 Cent (0.65%), to 122.3 Cent / lb.

ICO said that in October 2020 and November 2020, the main coffee exporting countries shipped 20.2 million 60kg bags to other countries, up from 18.9 million bags in the same period. period one year earlier, according to Business Recorder. The main factor behind this increase is the soaring exports from Brazil, which recorded a record harvest in 2020. Brazilian Naturals shipments rose 23% to 8.3 million bags over the period.

Coffee markets are now under supply pressure after the International Coffee Organization (ICO) reported that global exports in the first two months of the new 2020/2021 season increased 6.5% compared to the season. to 20.2 million 60kg bags, up from 18.9 million bags in the same period a year earlier.

However, the price of Arabica coffee in New York ended a series of declines when it was announced by the National Coffee Federation of Colombia (FNC) that this year’s output will decrease by about 6% compared to the previous year.

Investors on the London exchange were cautious about the strong pressure to sell new provisions, which pushed the price of Robusta coffee to a low of 4 weeks as soon as Vietnam – the largest Robusta producer in the world almost had. The new crop is completed. The London stock exchange report also showed that it had risen to an 8-month high. Meanwhile, fears of demand decline as many countries have to re-introduce social distancing measures due to an outbreak of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

During the first half of January 2021, India’s arabica coffee production is likely to decrease by 25-30% due to unseasonal rains affecting the growing areas, according to the  Deccan Herald.

In Karnataka state, heavy rainfall over the past few days has caused coffee trees in Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, and Hassan districts to fall off massively, causing great damage to farmers.

Mr. S Appadurai, President of Karnataka Planters, said: “Such heavy rains rarely happen in January. Moreover, we are facing a serious shortage of labor so it is impossible to harvest coffee ”.
